Department of Digital Media and Communication
The Department is operating since 1999 and started as a Department of Public Relations and Communication. It is operating under its new name (and sylabus) from June 2013.
The idea of establishing a Department of Public Relations and Communication in Kastoria, which would be unique in the Greek higher Education , started in 1997. Discussions between a number of professors took place at that time under the supervision of Dr Yannas Prodromos. This team of professors in response to a call from the Ministry Education and Religious Affairs submitted a proposal.
The proposal was evaluated and approved by the Ministry. The Department started operating in 1999.
From its founding till now the Department has developed good relations with the private sector and professional bodies in the field of Public Relations. Moreover it takes part in the European project Erasmus, is a member of Euprera (European Public Relations and Education and Research Association), and there is an ongoing exchange of students and academic staff between the Department of Public Relations and other similar Departments in other European countries.
The Department also organizes venues such as conferences, symposia etc for the benefit of the students and the Academic Community. The Department has organized the following symposia and conferences:
The operation of the Department , from September 1999 till August 2004, was funded mainly by the EU (75%) and partly by the Greek Government (25%). From September 2004 it is exclusively funded by the Greek Government.
